An intimate tale of one work day

Dear reader,
I was talking to some youth group guys in Year 12 last night at bible study dinner. One of them wanted me to describe why I find my days interesting and my work reasonably enjoyable. So today, I tried to take notes on every task I did. Kind of like a constant twittering, I guess.

Every morning I try to list a few key goals.
Goals today - get ASR leader. Nursing schedule. Get vouchers. Arrange certificates.

8.45am Got in - flicked through my email while eating breakfast.
Went up to see the doctor.
Collected mail for colleague while up at the doctor, and checked whether there were any more book vouchers (there weren't).
Back at office, responded to voicemail and rang person back to arrange meeting time to view how to set up the display screens in the library remotely.
Sent printing requisition for the International Cocktail party invitations off.
Rang applicants who responded to my email yesterday and booked an interview for this afternoon.
Looked up academic transcripts of the applicants to check they had suitable academic records.
Responded to existing leaders who saw the email - one saying yes I might give them extra sessions, the other no because he's a new leader
Responded to leader who wanted to change his contact email address
Rang/sms'd the 5 leaders who haven't given their timetables for next session
Got email from academic about some proposed leaders. Sent email back thanking him for the names.
Spoke to S about an issue around emailing the proposed leaders. She gave good advice.
Went out and bought 10 x $50 book vouchers to thank the new leaders for coming to the training, plus for the prizes for the draw, as I didn't have enough vouchers.
Got email from lady about meeting and finalised time, put in diary, and advised other managers via email of new time and location and that I was attending.
Checked the PPN's outside and made sure they were using the guillotine safely.
11am - ate an apple
Read over the final version of the "Studying at UTS" folder
Got email back from academic about the email to the proposed leaders.
Rang student who came in to do data entry earlier to get her back. She's gone home so she'll be in next Thursday.
Need to give feedback about the SAFE@UTS card and what information should be on it. Spent a while thinking about the important stuff and looking up information.
Emailed my feedback.
Got distracted by some of the content on the SSU website.
Walked over to Careers to mail the letter to the student who won the prize.
Settled an amicable argument about the pronunciation of "vase" amongst the student orientation leaders
Replied to email received about numbers of students offered a place in semester 2 and wrote back with a question about conversion rates.
Discussed PIN access with orientation leaders and whether it needs amending.
Looked for details of person about enrolment questions on UTS staff list and called them. Transferred several times and finally spoke to V who is going to email me the international figures.
Started working on application of student for u/p awards in Melbourne.
Got interrupted and rang Rental Company to see if we can pay their bill via credit card rather than raise a purchase order. Left message.
Looked for extra evidence to support student's application on network drive.
Got distracted by finding sign and fixing U/p sign up and pdf'ing. Need to send off to printing for laminating.
Received phone call about calculated numbers for orientation.
Worked on evidence again.
Received SMS from leader overseas about pulling out.
Spoke to another leader in the same subject to see his thoughts about the other leader.
Lunch with friend (Warm beef salad). Helped friend plan out assignment schedule over the next 2 weeks.
Back to work.
Reviewed final draft of SAFE@UTS card and approved.
Interviewed potential leader. Went quite well. Would be reasonably suitable.
Spoke to another leader on phone who is keen.
Checked voicemail and messages left. We have a rental inspection on Monday.
Took a phonecall from another university about the impact of VSU on UTS.
Back to student's application.
Get distracted by entering other leader's information into database and writing a note to my assistant about the scheduling.
SMS back to leader who wants to pull out. He's keen - he just can't id his timetable yet.
Receive email and book in meeting about Open book proposal.
Back to student's application. Finished, now to write a reference.
Took a phone call about a journalist wanting to know more information about international students. Referred to another area.
Tried to call student who applied to book interview. Hung up phone so sent sms.
Back to reference.
Interrupted by colleague with invoices and changes to the Studying at UTS document. Scanned and sent off to designer.
Put away interview notes for interview earlier, and remembered that I had run out of information sheets. Searched on network drive and printed a few more.
Discussed with colleague - she has arranged the button advertising orientation on the website, after getting the run around.
While printing information sheets, send email to the leader I interviewed in January with the latest details about being a leader and what to expect.
Ate another apple.
Finally finished reference.
Sent off u/p sign for laminating (ordered 150).
Phone call from student I sms'd. Interviewing tomorrow.
Email stops working.
Clean up desk and write new list of things to do.
Add new names to certificate order.
Decide to go home at 5 for the first time in weeks, because the computer is acting crazy.

Today I only completed getting the vouchers and interviewing for ASR leader. Yet I worked all day. Lol.
